I hope you are all enjoying this gorgeous October day. I got a chance to stop by the fair and was impressed with our student’s hard work. Many of them showed off their projects, baked goods, and animals I am constantly amazed at how talented and well-rounded out students are and I was in awe of the pride and dedication that our students put into preparing for the event.

This Thursday we celebrated our students who earned As and Bs on their first report card with a Hot Dog Social sponsored by NHS. Like most students at RHS many are involved in extracurricular activities, have jobs and family responsibilities but are also familiar faces in tutorials. I ask that you continue to remind your student that high performers attend teacher tutorials even if they are not in danger of failing.

Next Saturday we are hosting the ACT exam at RHS please encourage your student to take time for test preparation. The ACT is much different than STAAR so I encourage students to do some online practice to get their brains ready. Here is another good test prep site http://www.shmoop.com/

Our students are doing well adjusting to the routines and procedures of a new school year.  Now, the challenge is to excel at our school work. We have outstanding teachers and students at Rockdale High School with high expectations for our school and ourselves.  Your support of academics and effort at home reinforce this work.  Please check skyward regularly to see updates of grades to support your student and email your student’s teacher if you have questions. I have attached the tutorial schedule so you are aware of tutorials dates when planning at home.

We had a great pep rally today. I love seeing how well-rounded our students are and it was wonderful having the elementary here to share their spirit. I look forward to seeing you at the football game tonight. Monday is a school holiday so enjoy the long weekend.

Buses, Parking, and Safety:

  • Parking permits for the high school are available in the front office; students need to bring a copy of their insurance, valid driver’s license, license plate number, and $5.00 to the front office before August 28th.

Freshmen School Supplies: At high school each student could have an individual schedule so the school supply list you are used to from the past nine years is hard to share because the supplies they need will depend on their class choice. Students will receive information about supplies the first day of school and will have a week to get them. We suggest students bring a spiral and something to write with the first day of school.

All freshmen will need: 2 or 3 inch binder, dividers, pencil pouch, notebook paper, and blue or black pens, and highlighters if you want to beat the rush but know that more supplies may be required.

Class of 2016 Senior Portraits:  Rockdale Photography is the official photographer of Rockdale High School.  Schedule your appointment at their studio by calling 512-446-3346. They will take your yearbook shot (one outfit of your choice, cap & gown, and formal attire) for no sitting charge.  They also offer longer sessions with multiple backgrounds and outfit changes.  If you have questions, please contact Jocelyn Lewis at RockdalePhoto@att.net .  Those unable to attend sessions will have the opportunity to take a senior photo at RHS at a later date.

*Summer Reading: Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors please bring your summer reading projects with you the first day of school.

*Support Shirts: spirit shirts supporting Project Graduation are for sale in the front office or with a senior for $15.00. The last day to order is August 31st.

*Yearbooks: Extra 2014-2015 Yearbooks are for sale in the front office for $50.00
