I hope you enjoyed the weekend and were able to spend some time in the warmer weather.

Tomorrow starts the 5th Six Weeks grading cycle. We are in the home stretch of the school year (14 school days until spring break) and busy with spring activities. Please encourage your student to start the six weeks out strong by attending tutorials and study sessions.

It will be a busy week at Rockdale High School this week. Please take a few minutes to look at the events below. Thursday is the last day of the 4th six weeks!

Just a reminder Friday, February 16th and Monday, February 19th are student holidays these are great days for seniors to work on scholarships (forms in the office) or financial aid.

College Entrance Exams: We are excited to offer college placement exams during the school day this year. The SAT exam will be Tuesday, April 10th. The price is $46.00 for SAT / $60.00 SAT with Essay.

The ACT exam will be Tuesday, April 24th. The price is $42.50 for If you are interested in taking an exam contact Rebecca Ingram RIngram@Rockdaleisd.net (512) 430-6154 before February 16th. We recommend that all students take a college placement exam by the end of their junior year.

 The spring semester is busy for students and staff. Basketball, tennis, golf, soccer, softball, baseball, band, UIL, and Ag/FFA are in full swing. With this busy time many students are off campus, please remind students to check in with their teachers when they plan to be out for extended times. Thursday, February 15th is the last day of the fourth six weeks – with all of the absences be sure to encourage students to attend tutorials to get tests and labs made up.

Just a reminder that due to parent conference RES, RIS, and RJHS will be on an early release schedule Wednesday, February 7th. Rockdale High School is on regular schedule our early release day takes place the last week of the semester for final exams.

One Act Play

We are excited to offer One Act Play again at RHS. If you have a student interested in theater this is a great opportunity to compete in a UIL event.  Tryouts are next Thursday at 4:00pm each student will need to sign up to audition in the office by Wednesday, January 31st.

SHAC Surveys

The RISD SHAC (School Health Advisory Committee) has developed two surveys to gather more information so that we can better support our families and the community.  The two areas the committee is researching this year is social media and drug/alcohol use.

Students at Rockdale HS will be given the surveys between February 2nd - February 7th. Parents if you would like your student to opt out of the survey please respond to this email or we have letters in the office you can fill out.

We do invite parents to fill out the surveys too.  The SHAC Committee will review results in their February meeting.

Students will receive progress reports Wednesday. Please remind students to focus on homework and classwork and attend tutorials. Fourth six weeks is historically the toughest for grades and this is also the time that extracurricular activities start to pick-up again. Please stay on top of grades!

Students interested in taking the next level course during the 2018-2019 in any of the following programs of study: Construction, Welding, Advanced Floral Design, Health Science, AVID II-IV, or Career Preparation, need to pick up the packet of required forms beginning Tuesday, January 16th. Packets are available outside the office. PALs, Yearbook, and Sports Medicine/Athletic Trainer Packets are also available. All packets are due to the office Tuesday, January 30th.

 The spring semester is historically the toughest for students when it comes to turning in work and keeping up with grades. Please remind students to focus on homework and classwork and attend tutorials if needed. I ask that you continue to remind your student that high performers attend teacher tutorials even if they are not in danger of failing. The link below has the updated tutorial schedule for the spring semester. *Class of 2020: Sophomores will take the English 2 Mock EOC on Wednesday, January 24th students will be on alternate schedule.

 

Class of 2021: Freshmen because of weather this week the AVID college visit will be rescheduled for later this spring. English 1 MOCK EOC has been rescheduled for Monday, January 22nd students will be on an alternate schedule.

 

*Clothes Give-Away: It is not too late to clean out those closets, this weekend, for the clothes giveaway. We are taking donations through Tuesday, January 23rd and the giveaway will be on Thursday the 25th, here at the High School from 10-6.

* State Championship Photo Book: Steve Young has prepared a photo book of the 2017 State Champion Rockdale Tiger Football season.  The book contains 96 pages and there are about 200 photos in the book. Class of 2018 Information

Class of 2018 Parents,

Below is information about some upcoming due dates for seniors. I will start sending more frequent information for senior parents with due dates/items as we get closer to graduation. You will receive a timeline with all senior events in February including awards banquets. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions about graduation or post-high school needs.

Caps & Gown Ordering

Balfour met with students Thursday and shared information on cap & gown and invitation ordering. Students received packets and order sheets with more information. Balfour representatives will return to campus Thursday, January 25th 11:00am -1:00pm to place orders. You can order directly from the representatives OR you can order online at http://www.balfour.com/texas/rockdale/rockdale-high-school/

On Thursday orders less than $80 must be paid in full. Orders over $80 require an $80 deposit. Items will be delivered the last week in April to Rockdale High School.  

The cap & gown costs $60. Students are able to order a cap & gown after Thursday online. We will have caps & gowns at the office for students to buy after April but we can’t guarantee that all sizes are available and the cost is $65.

If you are unable to afford a cap & gown please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Project Graduation

Attached is information about Project Graduation. The event is May 25th after graduation and will be held at Grand Station in College Station.

The next Project Graduation Meeting is Monday, January 22nd in the RHS Library at 6:00pm the agenda includes Senior Shirts, Buses to Project Graduation, and Points.

College Readiness Night

Principals and counselors have been working with students to complete financial aid, applications, and scholarships. We have an upcoming work session planned this Wednesday, January 24th 5:30-7:00pm for students and parents needing help to complete paperwork. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions or specific needs. Scholarships are updated weekly on our campus webpage.

This is a great night to work on Financial Aid!!!

College Visits

The last day to take a school excused college or military visit is April 27th.

 

TSI Exam

Depending on your student’s ACT/SAT score they may need to take the TSI exam to enter Junior College or University in the fall. Please see a counselor for more information and paperwork needed to register. Exams are available at various locations do not wait until the last minute to schedule – May is a very busy month!

 

ACT/SAT Exams

It’s not too late to take these exams but I do recommend that you schedule soon.

ACT: April 14th, June 9th or July 14th (Saturdays)

SAT: March 10th, May 5th or June 2nd @ RHS (Saturdays)

Classes and Events Resume Wednesday 1/17


Rockdale ISD classes resume tomorrow.

The AVID field trip and ELA mock testing for freshmen have been rescheduled. Freshmen should be prepared to attend their regular schedule this week.

The roads look good but please remind your high school drivers to give themselves a few extra minutes tomorrow to get to school.

The High School Basketball games vs. Rogers in Rogers scheduled for today have been moved to Wednesday, January 17. The order for play is:
5:00 p.m. JV Boys- Old Gym
5:00 p.m. JV Girls- New Gym
6:00 p.m. 9th Boys- Old Gym
6:00 p.m. Varsity Girls- New Gym...
7:30 p.m. Varsity Boys- New Gym

In addition, the Soccer games scheduled for today vs. Caldwell in Rockdale have been moved to Thursday January 18. The girls will play at 5:00 p.m. and the boys will play at 7:00 p.m.

School Canceled - Tuesday, Janaury 16th

Due to expected weather including icy roads Rockdale ISD has canceled classes and events for Tuesday, January 16th.
Temple College classes are also canceled.

I hope you are all enjoying the three-day weekend and are able to spend time with friends and family. We are keeping an eye on the incoming weather and will share any changes to the school day through our webpage and messenger if needed.

January is School Board Recognition month! I hope you will join me in expressing appreciation for the Rockdale School Board for their dedication and hard work. Serving as a trustee is a tremendous undertaking and the RISD Board of Trustees is an extraordinary group. Their commitment to students, parents, teachers, programs, and schools has a significant positive impact on the community and directly relates to the current and future successes of Rockdale schools. Thank you RISD Board of Trustees for all you do!

The candy bars have been ordered to begin the prom fundraising for this year. Junior parents that are interested in helping with Prom 2018 and/or Project Graduation 2019, please respond to this email so we can begin planning.

Class of 2021: Freshmen students will be traveling with AVID to University of Mary Hardin Baylor on January 17th or 18th. On the 17th, students with last names A-K will stay on campus and take the English 1 MOCK EOC, while students L-Z will travel with AVID. On January 18th L-Z students will stay on campus and take the English 1 MOCK EOC, while students A-K will travel with AVID. Students will bring home more information about the trip next week.

College Entrance Exams: We are excited to offer college placement exams during the school day this year. The SAT exam will be Tuesday, April 10th. The price is $46.00 for SAT / $60.00 SAT with Essay.

The ACT exam will be Tuesday, April 24th. The price is $42.50 for ACT / $58.50 ACT with Essay. If you are interested in taking an exam contact Rebecca Ingram RIngram@Rockdaleisd.net (512) 430-6154 before February 16th. We recommend that all students take a college placement exam by the end of their junior year.

*Jacket Orders: Balfour will be on campus January 31st to measure and take orders for letter jackets. Students that earned a letter will receive paperwork and their reservation. This is also the time for students that have already earned a jacket and want to order additional patches to place an order (packets are available in the office). If you have questions about letter jackets or patches please contact Denise Betchan (512) 430-2501.

* State Championship Photo Book: Steve Young has prepared a photo book of the 2017 State Champion Rockdale Tiger Football season.  The book contains 96 pages and there are about 200 photos in the book. You can order the book by clicking on the link below and you can view the contents of the book before purchase as well.  The book cost is about $113.00 plus shipping.  There are no photography or author fees of any kind, just printing and shipping.
