Early Release Friday 11/17 1:45pm

Congratulations to our football team for making the playoffs. In order to run the bus routes and then get all groups to the game on time, we will need to release school early on Friday, November 17.
All students will be released at 1:45 and buses will run at that time. The routes will arrive at their destinations about two hours earlier than normal.

 Thank you to all of families and students that participated in the Veteran’s Day assembly Thursday. Thank you to the Veterans that joined us. It was wonderful to see all of Rockdale ISD in the RHS gym celebrating Veterans. I was impressed with the poise of our students that presented and proud of our students in the stands for their participation in the event. Congratulation to senior Emma Mireles our Voice of Democracy winner her speech was a great addition to the Veteran’s Ceremony.

Students received their second six week’s report cards in 3rd period Thursday. Please ask them to share the information with you. Here is a copy of the semester exam schedule.

Three students, from the Rockdale High School Art Department, were juried into the Central Texas Art Competition, held at the Temple College Visual Arts Gallery.  Please offer congratulations to Angel Hollan, Dejah Oges, and Shaunacey Cloer.   Their work will be hanging in the Gallery until December 1st.

This Tuesday seniors Frances King (Midwestern State) and Lyndy Laurrell (Southwestern) will sign their National Letters of Intent to continue their sports careers and education after graduation. It will be fun to celebrate these two as they take their next step; we will be in the RHS Gym at 2:45pm.

Christmas Round-Up: The high school will support Christmas Round-Up by collecting items for the food drive. We will have bins in the office and all items must be received by end of day December 6th: 9th grade – canned chicken / 10th grade – cornbread mix (2 pkgs = 1 item) / 11th grade – instant potatoes / 12th grade – Ramen Noodles (6pkgs = 1 item). Students can donate 1 of each item for a service hour. Beginning 11/13 students may also turn in items to Mrs. Thomas to replace detentions (1 item) and Saturday School (3 items).

Krispy Kreme Fundraiser: RHS Varsity Cheer & RHS Rotary Interact are selling Krispy Kreme donuts until Friday, November 17th. The cost is $10 a dozen. Donuts will be delivered to RHS Monday, November 20th. Order from a Cheerleader, Rotary Interact member, Mrs. Neal, or Ms. Commerford. Fun fall treat OR awesome for holiday baking!

Merry Tiger Christmas Shirts: RHS is selling shirts to raise money for the Blue Gold Scholarship benefitting RHS seniors. Orders & money are due November 15th to RHS. Order forms are on the RHS webpage and in the RHS office.

Texas Student Housing Scholarship: Seniors the 2017-18 scholarship application is open to students accepted to colleges in Austin, College Station, or Denton that have not signed off-campus housing leases. The application deadline is January 31, 2018. http://www.texasstudenthousing.net/

TSI Assessment - Registration Deadline

Junior & Senior Parents,

Just a reminder RHS is offering the TSI Exam at Rockdale High School Monday, November 13th.  To register for the TSI please see Mrs. Windham by Thursday November 9th.  The cost is $20.   We offer this test once in the fall and once in the spring; taking the exam on campus is a great opportunity so you don’t have to schedule a test at a college during the busy spring semester or testing in an unfamiliar place.

All students in Texas public colleges (2 & 4 year colleges) are required to take the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment unless the student qualifies for a TSI exemption with the scores listed below:

We have made it through the 2nd six weeks! Students will receive their report cards next week. Please keep in mind the 3rd six weeks is a busy time as we add additional sports and school activities to our already hectic schedules, take some time off for Thanksgiving, STAAR retesting, and finish up with midterm exams please continue to remind students to monitor grades and attend tutorials. 

On Thursday, November 9th at 1:15pm we will honor Veterans during an assembly in the high school gym. Many of our students will take part in the assembly. We invite you to attend and look forward to seeing you there.

We are having a College Readiness Night Wednesday night at 5:30-7:00pm in the RHS Library this is a great time for parents and students to register for ACT/SAT/TSI exams, apply to colleges/technical schools, get information on financial aid/scholarships, and work on FASFA.

If you have ACT, SAT, PSAT, or AP study materials at home that are no longer being used please consider donating them to the RHS library so we can use them for students who aren’t able to purchase materials.

Friday, November 3rd is the last day of the six weeks. Hard to believe we are only three weeks away from Thanksgiving break and 1/4 through the year. November is a quick month with a lot going on please continue to remind your student to monitor grades and attend tutorials. 

On Thursday, November 9th at 1:15pm we will honor Veterans during an assembly in the high school gym. Many of our students will take part in the assembly. We invite you to attend and look forward to seeing you there.

Tuesday is Halloween this is not a dress up or costume day at the high school. We will not run an afterschool / iTigers bus Tuesday due to Halloween and iTigers will be finished at 4:30pm on Tuesday.

National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, and Art National Honor Society students and their parents will be recognized before the football game this evening. You will begin lining up at 6:45pm on the track.

The Lady Tiger Volleyball team will play Troy at Eastview HS in Georgetown Monday, October 30th for their Bi-District Playoff game at 7:00pm. Please come out and support our Lady Tigers!

The Big Blue Band advanced to the Area Marching Contest at Waco Midway Saturday, October 28th at 11:15am. Please come out and support our Big Blue Band!

I hope you are all enjoying this gorgeous October day. I got a chance to stop by the fair and was impressed with our student’s hard work. Many of them showed off their projects, baked goods, and animals I am constantly amazed at how talented and well-rounded out students are and I was in awe of the pride and dedication that our students put into preparing for the event.

The second six weeks is full of activities; as always we are encouraging students to stay on top of their grades. Students will receive a copy of their Progress Report this week but keep in mind the last day of this grading cycle is Friday, November 3rd please remind your child to be proactive and attend tutorials when needed.

Late registration for the November SAT Exam held in Rockdale is October 25th – you still have time to sign-up. The campus code is 445-925.

ASVAB Exam: RHS will offer the ASVAB exam October 26th for interested Juniors and Seniors. This test is not only for military entrance but a great career inventory that will let you know your career strengths. See a counselor or your English teacher before October 24th to sign-up.

We are looking forward to a great Battle of the Bell week at RHS.  This is an important week for student success as well as we wrap up the second six week’s progress reports. Students that keep up with work and re-test on assessments at this point in the year are more likely to be successful at the end of the year.  A strong foundation set in the first semester is key.  Contact your teacher or reply to this email if there is anything we can do to support your student’s success.

This week was a great start to the second six weeks .  Our #1 focus is always student academic success.  The past two weeks in particular, after-school tutorials were a packed house as students were studying and re-doing exam grades trying to squeak by for the six weeks.  Please remind your student that high performers attend teacher tutorials even if they are not in danger of failing.  The second six weeks is a fast six weeks it is actually only five weeks long.

Students received report cards in their 3rd period class today. Monday is a student holiday/staff professional development day; Temple College students will have class in the morning.

We are in the final week of the first grading cycle; please remind students to finish strong and attend tutorials as needed.

The last two week have been full of activities; when you get a chance take a look at the pictures on the RHS Facebook and Twitter accounts to see all of the RHS fun.

We are excited to have Colleen Moore join our staff as our new Biology teacher. Thank you for your patience as we looked for the perfect fit for this position the last two weeks. Mrs. Moore is coming to us with experience from Pflugerville ISD, Bryan ISD, and Conroe ISD.

*Class of 2018: students will work with Temple College representatives in English classes October 2nd to begin Apply Texas (college applications). We will have a financial aid work session for parents/students Wednesday, October 11 at 5:30pm in the library.

*Golden Girls Events: Booster club meeting on September 25th, 6:30 in the RHS library.  Braided bread orders will start on September 25th - October 9th see a Golden Girl to order bread.

Mid-Tex College Fair: AVID students, Juniors and Seniors interested in attending the College Fair in Belton Thursday, September 28th need to sign-up with their counselor by Wednesday. There will be over 100 colleges available to share information. The bus will leave the high school at 5:00pm!

Senior Brag Ads: The Yearbook Staff is currently selling Senior “Brag” Ad space in our 2017-2018 Yearbook. Thank you to all of the families that joined us at Open House Tuesday night. We have a tremendous staff at RHS and our relationships with our parents, students and community are very important to us. We know that this is one aspect of what ensures success for each and every student. Please continue to let us know if there is if there is anything we can do to support your student.

Thank you to all of the students, community members, and staff that helped out with the blood drive today. Thank you to HOSA and Rick Eubank for organizing the event.

The six weeks ends Friday, September 29th! Please continue to encourage students to check grades and attend tutorials as we finish up the first grading cycle. Remind students to study and review notes for six week exams.

*Class of 2019 is hosting the concession stand Thursday, September 28th to begin prom fundraising. Parents if you are interested in helping organize or work the concession stand please respond to this email.

*College Fair: There will be a College Fair at the Bell County Expo Center in Belton on September 28th. Interested juniors, seniors and AVID students must sign up in the counselor’s office by September 27th to reserve their seat on the bus.

* iTigers Donations we are collecting new and gently worn clothing, clothes hangers and personal hygiene items. Please take items to the iTigers Recreation room (E121) or the office. School supplies are still available in the iTigers room for RHS students in need.

PTO Membership: The next meeting will be September 19th at 6 p.m. at the Junior High. PTO will have a drawing at the meeting for a gift certificate and a t-shirt for all those who have completed membership forms. Our t-shirt and membership special will run until that meeting. So they can get a t-shirt and a membership for only $15. Membership forms are available in the office.
