The start of another school year begins Monday.  I hope you all had a wonderful summer!

There are a few important items to note below as we prepare for the first day of school.

First day of School: First period begins at 8:00 and the school day ends at 3:30. The bell schedule is available on the RHS webpage.  Students should bring something to write with and a notebook/spiral to take notes. Summer reading projects are due Friday, August 26th but students will begin discussions/assignments of the reading Monday!

Schedules: Students will be able to enter the building at 7:30. All students will receive a copy of their schedule in the Rotunda before first period.

Buses, Parking, and Safety:

  • The bus routes are available on the RISD Webpage.
  • Parking permits for the high school are available in the front office; students need to bring a copy of their insurance, valid driver’s license, license plate number, and $5.00 to the front office before August 26th.
  • Please be careful when driving through the neighborhoods as students return back to school.  We will have many students walking and riding their bikes to schools this year.

See you Monday. We are looking forward to a great year at Rockdale High School!

Tiffany Commerford

Principal

*Dual Credit Information: Classes begin Monday, August 22nd and the bus will leave from the front parking lot promptly at 7:20am. All Temple College students will need to sign up with Remind. Please text @templecoll to 81010.  We will have a mandatory Temple College student meeting Friday, August 26th at 9:00 in the library. Textbooks will be distributed through the library Tuesday afternoon.

*iTigers Survey: As we plan for a new year of iTigers with our new campus coordinator Kristin Jakubik please share feedback with us for ways to grow our program. This year we will add ACT, SAT, PSAT and TSI test prep to programs we offer after school through iTigers!

Students will receive information about supplies the first day of school and will have a week to get them. We suggest students bring a spiral and something to write with the first day of school. All students will need: 2 or 3 inch binder, dividers, pencil pouch, notebook paper, and blue or black pens, and highlighters.

I hope you are enjoying the last weeks before school starts. I have been impressed with our students this week; a little over 50% of our students are involved in some activity to begin school (band, volleyball, football, cross country, cheer, Golden Girls, trainers…) and I will say all of the summer workouts, scrimmages, and practices have looked great.

We apologize for the delay in sharing student schedules.  Schedules will be available Monday, August 15th in the Rotunda from 9:00am-3:00pm. Students can also purchase their parking passes Monday they must bring their driver’s license, proof of insurance, license plate number, and $5.00.

We are looking for a campus representative or two for the PTO.  If you are interested in being the high school representative for PTO please respond to this email.

July 2016

It is hard to believe that it is already July – summer is flying by!  I hope you are enjoying your break I have shared upcoming dates and information below.

I have linked the dates for the SAT/ACT for 2016-2017. The test dates offered in Rockdale are noted but know that the schools near us (Cameron, Taylor, Hutto, Pflugerville…) offer testing on the other dates.

The SAT practice site is available through a partnership with The College Board, which administers the SAT, and Khan Academy, a leader in online education. By logging on to www.satpractice.org, students are able to access personalized practice recommendations that are tailored to their own strengths, weaknesses, and progress. This site is also great for PSAT practice; all juniors will take the PSAT October 19th and sophomores will take the PSAT February 22nd.   There are many scholarships associated with high ACT, SAT, and PSAT scores please encourage your student to take advantage of the free practice sites.

Freshmen camp (Class of 2020) just a reminder that camp forms were sent home to all 8th graders in May. We are still taking registrations for freshmen camp and need them ASAP so we can order shirts and food. There are extra forms in the front office and on the RHS webpage.

It’s hard to believe, that we are down to just a few days!  This week attending both the athletic award’s and the academic award’s assemblies I was reminded why I am so proud to be part of Rockdale ISD.  On Tuesday night we celebrated athletic accomplishments and I am still in awe (yes – even after 2 years) at how successful our students have been congrats to state golf, state, tennis, and 3A state champion track.  Then Thursday night we awarded over $300,000 dollars in scholarship money ($70,000 local) to seniors.  Junior US History teacher Cynthia Azua was awarded the RHS Golden Apple Award Thursday night. As a principal I couldn’t be any prouder of their accomplishments in and out of the classroom and how professional they were at both events!

Please take a look at the exam schedule for next week; there are 3 different schedules next week. We received STAAR EOC scores late Friday (they look good) and we will share these with student Monday in class; please contact the counselors if you have any questions about STAAR scores.

Seniors must attend graduation practice Friday morning at 9:00am – please remind the men to shave and all students to pay their fines!  We will not begin practice until both of those items are complete.

*Battle of the Bell – shirt design submissions are due May 23rd.  Contest details are available in the office all Juniors are able to submit a design.

*Project Graduation: The event will be held at Austin Park & Pizza on May 27-28. The seniors will need to arrive at the high school gym parking lot at 10:30 pm on Friday, May 27. We will return at approximately 7:00 am Saturday, May 28. Students are encouraged to wear their senior shirt.
