I was so proud of our students and staff Thursday as our campus hosted the district UIL academic competition. It was awesome to hear all of the compliments from the others schools "beautiful building, organized meet, can’t believe you are still holding classes at the same time as the meet, and tons of remarks on how well behaved our students are..." I sometimes forget all the good so it was nice to be reminded. Huge thank you to Murray Street Church of Christ and Meadowbrook Baptist for sharing their buildings with us for the UIL meet.

The next round of testing for the STAAR End of Course Exams is scheduled for March 29th and March 31st. Students will take the English I and English II assessment. Since a large number of students and teachers will be involved in testing, we will follow an alternate bell schedule and lunch will be later than normal for the students but we have provided snacks for testers. Seniors will only be required to check-in by 9:00am on Tuesday, March 29th and Thursday, March 31st due to EOC exams unless they owe hours or A+ credit recovery. Please make sure students get plenty of rest in preparation for the exam, I know they are ready and will do great things!

Just a reminder we are at that time of year when students need to restock paper and pencils. Take a few minutes this weekend and inventory the backpack; we want to finish the year off on a good note for homework and classwork!

Congratulations to Senior Jacob Aguirre for qualifying for State in Powerlifting. We wish him good luck in his upcoming competition!

Monday starts the fifth six weeks of the school year; the spring semester is historically the toughest for students when it comes to turning in work and keeping up with grades. Please remind students to focus on homework and classwork and attend tutorials if needed.  I ask that you continue to remind your student that high performers attend teacher tutorials even if they are not in danger of failing.  Spring schedules are tough even for the brightest students please remind them to communicate with teachers when they will miss class for events.

FASFA Night on Wednesday, February 24th we will have a Financial Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) night hosted by Temple College at 6:00pm in the cafeteria. This is an opportunity for parents and students to get answers about FASFA and start applications.  Parents of seniors please remember the deadline for FASFA for most four year universities is March 15th.

The spring semester is busy for students and staff. Basketball, tennis, golf, softball, baseball, band, UIL, and Ag/FFA are in full swing. With this busy time many students are off campus, please remind students to check in with their teachers when they plan to be out for extended times. Friday, February 19th is the last day for fourth six weeks grades.

Thursday we will have Mock EOC Tests for English II. These tests provide us with valuable information for planning and student intervention. Please be mindful of the date when planning appointments. Students will be on an alternate bell schedule and this changes lunch times.

Last week Freshmen visited University of Mary Hardin Baylor and Temple College with their AVID class. It was great to hear how excited they were about college and the activities they did with PALs. If you get a chance take a look at pictures from the events on the RHS Facebook page. We were also very proud of their Mock English I exams and how hard the students worked.
