The World Of Agriculture
My name is Mr. Grigsby and this year marks my 9th year in Public Education and my 5th year at Rockdale High School. I graduated college from Sam Houston State University with a major in General Agriculture, and a minor in Secondary Education. My family consists of my wife and two sons. We live in the small town of Bartlett. My wife works for Bartlett ISD and serves as the Dean Of Students for the High School. My oldest son will be starting kindergarten and my youngest is only 9 months old. I have a passion for the Agriculture and Construction fields. Growing up I helped my grandfather on the family farm, this sparked my interest in the Agriculture field. We raised registered Beefmaster cattle and grew grain sorghum and cotton. In High School I was looking for my "area" where I could branch out and really grow on something. This "area" was found my Junior year when i purchased my first showpig. That one purchase was what shaped my future. I found a passion for raising pigs, so much so that my grandfather gave me a part of his cattle barn and let me run a small sow herd. After High School Graduation I grew my sow herd, at one time with my fathers and grandfathers help I was running 10 sows that farrowed July through September to market the piglets as show prospects. Anybody that knows me will tell you that if you bring up the subject of pigs I will talk your ear off about it. To me raising pigs can be the most rewarding and frustrating thing to do and for sure it is a challenge which to me makes it fun. My father has always owned his own construction business and growing up I also got to work with and learn along side him. I have worked in many areas of construction from rough frame construction to the detailed finish work inside. The best part about my job is I get to pass on the knowledge that I have learned in a subject that I love on to my students. When I lecture in class it is not from a person that has read it in a book but from a person who has lived that experience. As I enter this year of teaching I am just as excited going into my 10th year as I was my first. I look forward to having your student in my class and hopefully we will learn from each other this coming school year!
